Bolt 2.5 review

Bitstream just squeezed some more power out of their Bolt Browser with the release of v2.5. I have not used Bolt as often since BlackBerry 6 brought a WebKit browser but there are some sites that only render correctly on the Bolt browser. The new v2.5 of Bolt raises that bar a little further with these new features:

•Geolocation support : BOLT 2.5′s geolocation feature allows a user with a GPS enabled device to pass latitude and longitude information to location enabled websites through the browser.
•Expanded coverage of video sites, Release 2.5 supports playback of videos on Facebook.
•Upgrade to Webkit 5 in BOLT’s cloud.
•Even greater HTML5 support. BOLT continues to lead the way for support of HTML5 standards amongst mobile browsers. BOLT 2.5 supports HTML5 audio and video streaming while providing the highest compliance with HTML 5 standards compared to all other browsers in the space.
•Revamped user interface. Get access to BOLT’s most frequently used features in lesser clicks with a more streamlined layout, menu structure and help. Widgets are now available through BOLT homepage.
•Download Manager has been upgraded to maintain download history even after the exiting the browser and resume last download after browser re-launch.

Opera mini 6 Review

WEB BROWSER OUTFIT Opera has revealed more details about its mobile Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 web browsers.

The mobile web browsers are part of Opera's campaign to attract punters who have bought smartphones and tablets. To that end, it has added a number of user interface features to them.

Opera has tweaked its Mini 6 and Mobile 11 browsers for mobile devices and claims they include better scrolling, panning and zooming.

It has added multi-touch pinch and zoom for devices that support pinch gesture control. In a nod to the social notworking world, Opera has added an instant 'share' button to provide mobile users with quick access to their social networking websites. It has also optimised the web browsers' user interfaces for tablets.

Opera Mini is a cut down version of the Opera Mobile browser, so punters still won't get HTML5.

Opera Mini 6 is compatible with J2ME, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian/S60 phones. The Opera Mobile 11 browser works on Android, Symbian and, in lab releases, Windows 7 desktop, Meego and Maemo.

I forgot  Embarrassed the rotate command does not work in either bolt or opera on the impression but you can go into the settings in either app and select landscape and it will turn the app to landscape without opening the keyboard or just leave it as is and when opening keyboard it will flip to landscape.  Wink

Also someone else sent me a PM saying that opera mini was not fullscreen and still had the nav buttons but I just installed th new opera and it is full screen so not sure what the problem was but I would suggest reinstalling again using TKFE and use both the jar and jad I have posted and let me know if you are having a problem.  Smiley

MIDlet-ScreenMode: Rotate command does work on impression. It is activated when you slide the keyboard open.  I added it and the touchscreen jad attribute to the jar file also.

upgraded to Opera 6.0, when loading the .jad file kept getting content not signed, and invalid content error.
But the upgrade took and is working.

Now I keep getting "You are accessing the Network.  Data charges may apply.  Continue?"  What's the fix for that? I did not have thisd issue with the 5.xx Opera upgrade.

Thanks!!

Now I am getting a Blue security bar when first using the Opera Browser.  Should I try a reinstall?  If I just copy over the .jar and .jad will I have to reload all bookmarks and links, because that is a PITA!!  Thanks!
