I take it I can't go as far as naming it Gmail.jar(the .jar must be the culprit) because every time I try I get"Error:Unable to rename the specfied file." message and TkFileExplorer locks right up(have to go into my computer's Task Manager and close the program down that way..

Are you trying to rename the files using TKFE?  If so DON'T.

TKFE is unstable already and decides to randomly work for us as is.  I would recommend starting over (delete the current GMaps from the phone) and changing the names of the files while they are still on your computer, then upload the finished files onto the phone with TKFE.

Don't download the whole folder. You will get an error 99% of the time. Create the folder using TKFE on phone and then download the jad first then the jar.

Hey everyone, Im new here. I just picked up this phone and am completly oblivious so I apologize for the ignorant question.

Anyway, as I mentioned I just picked this phone up and found this site. I am interested in this app but Im unsure exactly what I need to do. Is all I have to do is follow the instructions  on the first page to get it fully functioning or do I need any additional software such as a gps app already installed in order for it to work? BC it just seems too simple. Sometimes if I try and get a program working on my PC, I need to install three other programs before that in order for it to work. Im just curious is if this is the same thing

JUst follow the steps listed in the first post.

You will need to install the drivers for the phone and TKFE, or you can also read the sticky about Blue FTP:

OK. JUst a few more quick follow up questions.

Whats TKFE?
DO I download drivers from the phone by going to software update under the phones settings icon?
And what are the advantages for using Blue FTP? Disadvantages?

None of these questions have anything to do with this thread. All your questions are stickies on this forum.  Please take the time to read and search before asking the same old questions again.

Thank you!!! This works so amazingly well for me on my Impression.  I uploaded the attached JAD to my phone with Rumkin, added a couple lines extra to the JAD since I prefer landscape, then using TKFE uploaded the JAD on to the phone and it works like a dream.  Before when I used the signed version from Google, it could not even find my location.  Nothing.  Not outside even.  Now, from inside the house it gets me damn close to where I am, and I can get directions to where I need to go.  I will be testing this on the road to TN this weekend so I can only say you guys and gals rock yet again.  Grin

Update:  I had no luck with this method.

Best install method is to use TKFE to install the jad and jar.
