Does anyone know of a geocaching software for the impression? I've been looking on google with not much luck, if I find one, I'll post it here.

For those of you that don't know, geocaching is pretty much treasure hunting with GPS, fun stuff, should give it a try.

So are you looking for an app that gives you the sites and uses the gps? Or are you needing a basic gps app that just works with coordinates?

Well and integrated one thats integrated with geocaching.com would be nice. But yes, a basic GPS app that allows you to import the coordinates and tell you how many feet away you are from it would be very helpful to me as it wouldn't use any data.

So far the only one I've been able to find that works is the app at http://live.geocaching.com/dl/ and then applying the goatbreaking method.

And how well does the app work? Features you would care to share with the forum?

The app itself works pretty well. There is full touch screen control, but it is a "beta" so you can only show 5 caches at a time. You  have the option of downloading from where you currently are using the GPS coordinates or by scrolling to an area and it will download the 5 nearest the center of the screen. You can also input coordinates as well and it shows different "modes" when you select a target such as compass, map, etc.

It downloads maps from openmaps (something like that) but there is the option of adding a map server which I have not tried.

I'd say the only real problem is when you use the guide and choose to download caches nearest you, it just stays there. It says press "ok" to cancel but since you are using full touch screen, you'll have to exit out and start the app again.

I finally got this goatbroken, but the only problem is... no caches are showing up. has anyone else experienced this problem? It only says "please wait... Press okay to cancel"

Any other geocaching app suggestions?

I did my first succesful geocaching last weekend with Locify.

See http://www.samsung-impression.org/index.php?topic=604.0

Great app, but it has some quirks.

AWESOME app!!! It's very promising...

The only problem is... the gps maps have about a 3-4cm gap in them with huge orange lines running down the screen. It makes things very hard to read.

Are you having the same problems?
(maybe adding the extra script that agoattamer recommends in goatbreaking into the jar file would fix this? because i did not add in the lines of script)

Any ideas?
Once again, a big thanks!

Its the application. On some applications the joining of the tiles are separated by spaces.

Maybe this sounds bad... but is there any way to use the free-for-nokia-phones version of Geocache Navigator work with our phone? I assume it uses a java file...

Just an update... the free-for-nokias version of geocache navigator does not work with our phone because it is still a subscribed service and requires registering/paying.

No luck here friends!

Russ--
Did you find an app for your phone? Surely by now you've found the apps mentioned on other threads....but...in case you haven't; try MgMaps. I use it for my geocaching on the same site you mentioned: works great! It'll reliably work 'offline'; no charges for use notable over the last few months.

One caveat is a lag, proportionate to the number of 'favorites' eg. caches. As that number --and your map size-- go up, wait time gets noticeable. Too much to keep track of. Lesson: nix the 'Founds' as soon as you log them!

Cheers!

I have installed the Geocaching live, and goatbroke it. I have not made it full screen as it seems to leave dead ends requiring restarting the app. So far it is faster on acquiring your position and surrounding caches than Locify. I will go out and use it today to try to give a good objective review of the program. I have used Locify and two Magellan GPSrs to find plenty of geocaches over the years so stand by...

The Geocaching Live is great geocaching app.
Two things, one it is a Beta that is being tested in Europe, so it's platform is Metric. Second, it is testing a geocacher locator. In other words, when running the program, others running the program can see your location in real time.
If you can get past that, it has high end GPSr features, like projection capability, sat imagery and compass locator superimposed on your map. It downloads caches, real time form geocaching.com. If you are a premium member on Geocaching.com, you can download up to 50 of the closest caches to your position. If no then you can download 5. It maintains the hints, and past logs of the cache. Full descriptions, star ratings. The compass is fast enough to know when you passed the cache location bay a step or two. I haven't looged my caches using the program yet but it looks like it has that feature.

Well worth downloading if you geocache. Orif you are curious about geocaching but don't want to drop the $$ on a dedicated GPSr yet.

If the accelerometer could be made to work with the program, this program would offer the features of a $400 GPSr
