I just used the phone's system font and there are three different sizes (small, medium, large) to choose from. I can't do anything with that font to make it bigger. The only way to do it is to add custom fonts. I'm not going to do that because it is supposed to just be a simple notepad and people would start requesting fonts.

I loaded the app by downloading it from the web site and everything looks okay except when I save or open a file.  The location and file browser have a forward slash scrolling to the left and I cannot select a folder location from which files can be opened or to which files can be saved.  Am I doing something wrong?

You need to goatbreak the app to be able to see the file system.  Its in his instructions to do that.

I'd like to create a "Documents" folder to save txt files into. I created one in the "Media" folder in TKFE but can't see the folder in the phone. I installed via master code.

Why are you adding documents with TKFE? You should be using mass storage instead or create the folder on your phone with your phone. TKFE is not to transfer text files and folders.

And what do you mean you installed with the master key? I didnt see atutorial for that. No master key needed to copy folders or texts. However since documents or folders are not showing I suggest you do use the master key and update the media database and see if they show.

In the future use TKFE ONLY for installing games/apps and doing mods.

I think you're confused. I installed the app with the master key and added the Documents folder on TKFE since I didn't know I could create a directory with the phone. How is that done?

EDIT: Ok, I removed the Documents folder via TKFE and then updated app/java DB's and then created the folder in My Stuff. I still can't see Documents folder in Noteable. I see 7 folders (photo, mmc, record, music, tones, graphics and video)

I created the folder and chose Phone instead of Sim Card. I have a 4gb memory card in there too.

I was wondering how Notable interfaces with the phone's file system.  Specifically, I used Notable to create a text file, which I then moved using the phone interface (under manage folder).  Upon moving the file, I can no longer find it to edit using Notable (using Menu > Open), however I can find/view it under the phone's file system.

I then created a second text file, which I copied using the phone interface.  Noteable only sees the original file when I try to open.

Is this an known bug? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Edit:

So I did some more testing.  I created a test.txt file and saved it (via Noteable) in the same folder as the original file I was attempting to open.  I could open test.txt but not the original, which had been moved via the phone's file system.  I then went under the phone file system and used the Rename function to change test.txt to test1.txt and the original file to test.txt.

I went back under Noteable: Menu > Open, and I could open test1.txt (the file I had originally saved via Notable) but it did not see the file I had renamed test.txt

Noteable interfaces with the phone's file system perfectly. Grin It sounds like user error to me. I just several things and it worked every time. I saved a note with Noteable, renamed it with the phone's manager, moved it and made a copy and moved and renamed a copy back to the original and moved it back to it's original location.

I could find everyone of them with Noteable and was able to open them. 2 things:

1. Are you sure you didn't accidentally copy or move the file to the phone's memory from the memory card or vice versa.
2. If you minimize Noteable while the file browser is open you will not see any changes made to files or folders that you made with the phone's manager unless you back out of the current folder and open it again.

Well, I don't have a memory card and I've exited Notable multiple times and restarted the phone for good measure.  I'll keep playing with it and see what happens.  Thanks for the quick reply

What folder are you saving in on your phone? Can you please restate step by step what you are doing so that I can recreate it on my phone? I can tell you this much: it's not possible to see/open folders/files created with the phone's manager in the root folder. That is your 'My Stuff' folder. That has nothing to do with anything I did in my app. It is how the CLDC and MIDP are implemented on the phone itself.

Originally I saved the text file to Record/, the recorded audio folder.  I then created a sub-folder in Pictures as a place to save my text files.  Using the phones interface I moved file.txt from /Records to Pictures/Text Files/.  At this point Notable was no longer able to open file.txt.

Noteable can see the subfolder I have created.  It can see test.txt (which I placed in Pictures/Text Files/) and when I renamed test.txt it still recognizes that file.

I also copied text.txt to the Record/ folder, opened Noteable, opened the test.txt and tried to Save As... to Record/.  While no files were shown as being in that folder, it gave an error saying the file name already exits.

I just confirmed that I can transfer files onto my phone via TKFE which can be opened by Noteable (P:\Media\Pictures\Text Files), and I have used the Update Media Database under the Internals menu.

Now, Noteable can also see files which do not have the .txt extension.  I tried copying one of my ringtones to another folder and Noteable could not see that file either.  It seems the problem lies with how the phones file system handles the movement of data.  I can see copies were actually created in their respective folders via TKFE, but for some reason they don't show in Noteable.

Bantam will be along to answer your questions. But dont use TKFE to put files on your phone. Only use it for installing apps or games. Anything you use TKFE for in any of the media folders will not be recognized by the phone. Use mass storage for that.
